This list of literary agencies is not comprehensive, but presents a good starting point collecting a wide range of reputable agencies.

 If you are interested in an agency not on this list, you may want to check the WGA Signatory List to make sure they are licensed by the State of California.

 

THE BIG FOUR

Most new writers will find it extremely difficult to sign with one of these agencies.  They are very selective of who they even consider, so queries often do not draw much response and unsolicited submissions are almost never read.  That being said, there are always exceptions to the rule, but keep your expectations reasonable when soliciting agencies of this caliber.

SMALLER AGENCIES AND BOUTIQUES

While smaller than the big, full service firms, these agencies still represent a large number of working writer clients.  Because they are smaller, they tend to be more likely to take a chance on baby (new) writers.  A solid query letter and/or a good referral are still likely necessary for serious consideration.
